Why We’re Participating in the Live Like Her Challenge — 4th Year Running

For the fourth year in a row, I’m proud to be participating in the Live Like Her Challenge supporting The Forgotten Women — a charity doing critical work to support homeless women over 55, one of the fastest-growing groups facing homelessness in Australia.

Every year this challenge hits harder.

Every year the stories stay with me longer.

And every year I’m reminded how incredibly lucky most of us are.

As a business owner, a wife, a friend, and a woman, this cause is deeply personal to me. The reality is that many women experiencing homelessness never imagined this would become their life. Many have worked their entire lives, raised families, cared for others, survived divorce, domestic violence, illness, loss of employment, rising rents, or simply found themselves unable to keep up with the increasing cost of living in Australia.

And suddenly, they’re sleeping in cars.

Sleeping on couches.

Skipping meals.

Trying to survive invisibly.

The Reality of Homeless Women in Australia

Homelessness does not always look the way people expect.

Many women experiencing homelessness still go to work. Some are grandparents. Some are escaping unsafe situations. Many are too ashamed to ask for help.

The Forgotten Women exists to change that.

The organisation provides practical support, emergency assistance, advocacy, connection, and dignity to women who are often overlooked and forgotten by society.

That’s why the Live Like Her Challenge matters.

For one night, participants sleep in their cars to help raise awareness and much-needed funds for women doing it tough across Australia.

One night may sound small.

But for thousands of women, this is not a challenge.

It’s reality.

Why I Keep Coming Back Every Year

This will be my fourth year participating, and honestly, it’s something I will continue to support for as long as I can.

The experience is confronting.

It strips away comfort very quickly and gives you a tiny glimpse into the fear, uncertainty, isolation, and exhaustion many women experience every single day.

But more importantly, it creates conversations.

Real conversations.

Conversations about housing affordability.

Conversations about domestic violence.

Conversations about the hidden homelessness crisis affecting women across Australia.

And conversations about how easily life can change.

As someone working in property every day, I see firsthand how difficult the housing market has become for many Australians. Rising rents, low vacancy rates, increasing property prices, and financial pressure are impacting people everywhere — especially older women trying to navigate life alone.

This challenge is my way of giving back and using my platform to raise awareness for something that genuinely matters.

Supporting The Forgotten Women

This year, our team is once again raising funds to support The Forgotten Women and the incredible work they do for vulnerable women in our community.

Every donation helps provide support, emergency relief, resources, and hope to women who need it most.

And beyond donations, awareness matters too.

Because once people understand the reality of homelessness in Australia, especially for older women, it becomes impossible to ignore.

How You Can Help

You can support the Live Like Her Challenge by:

  • Donating to our fundraising page
  • Sharing this blog and spreading awareness
  • Talking about homelessness openly
  • Supporting charities helping vulnerable women
  • Checking in on people around you who may be struggling silently

No woman should feel forgotten.

The older I get, the more I realise how important community is.

How important kindness is.

And how important it is to use your voice for something bigger than yourself.

This challenge is emotional every single year, but it’s also incredibly important.

To everyone who has donated, shared, supported, or encouraged us over the years — thank you.

You are helping change lives.

And to the women doing it tough right now: you are seen, you matter, and you are not forgotten.
